If you’re the type of person who constantly is saying things like, “I’m just a stay at home mom” or “I’m an anxious person” or “I have nothing interesting to say” or anything along those lines, please give this episode a listen! Today’s show is a short and sweet sucker punch of encouragement and truth that you NEED to hear and realize. The language you use and the words you speak over yourself have power.
Lindsey and Evie give multiple examples of how that’s the friggin truth, and practical ways to change your mindset in order to change the words you speak. If you’re ready to stop speaking death over yourself, and START speaking LIFE, stick around because your mind is about to be blown.
Words Have Power
“If you change how you think, you change your mindset.
If you change your mindset, you change your behaviors.
If you change your behaviors, you change your habits.
If you change your habits, you change your outcomes.
If you change your outcomes, you change your life.”
-Brianna Wiest
That is some fire gospel truth. How you think will affect how you speak. How you speak will affect how you act. How you act forms habits and this ultimately changes everything in your life.
Do any of these sound familiar?
“I’m awkward AF”
“I know nothing about taxes.”
“I’m an anxious person.”
“I’ll never earn 6 figures.”
“I’m JUST a stay at home mom.”
“Yeah, I’m not responsible enough for ___.”
“I never win these things”
“People won’t pay my prices.”
“I have nothing interesting to say.”
“I’m not a morning person.”
“I’m not good with numbers.”
“I’m not routined enough.”
“I’m not a creative person.”
“I can’t speak in front of people.”
“I’m not a people person.”
Please stop speaking these words over yourself; don’t even think them. If you are speaking these things over yourself, you are killing yourself slowly from the inside out.
For example, people often say, “I am an anxious person.” NO YOU ARE NOT. You are a person struggling with anxiety. You can not take over the identity what you are struggling with.
The struggles and fears you have do not define you. Stop speaking them over yourself and giving them power. What you say dictates your actions.
Your words and thoughts about yourself have power. The more you give those thoughts and words power, the more it will keep you captive from breaking free and doing what you were made to do and being who you were made to be.
Proverbs 18:21 –
“Life and death is in the power of the tongue.”
What you ingest is going to show in your life so be very careful and intentional. Ingest biblical truth, or positive teachings and thoughts instead of negative or fear based ideas, thoughts, and conversations.
Here’s an example: There was a recent study where a classroom took two plants and put them on two different window sills. Everyday the students spoke words of encouragement and life to one plant, and to the other spoke words of death and discouragement. The plant that received words of encouragement grew and prospered while the plant that received words of death shriveled and died. If this works on a plant, imagine what the implications would be to a human.
Put this into practice
Every morning, speak five things of truth to yourself in the mirror. Speak something full of life and truth: You are beautiful. You are a world changer. You are kind. You are perfect the way you are.
Then, write these down. They are little love letters to yourself that remind you of who you are and who you want to be.
If you are struggling with something, speak the opposite of the lie you are battling. This can change everything.
Your words have power. They have power over other people. They have power over you. It’s time to start changing your words to actually make a difference in your life. If you are constantly in a negative mindset and believing lies about yourself, this is going to affect your life. If you want to have a positive life and be a world changer then call yourself a world changer. Speak that truth over yourself again and again and don’t stop.
