Today we’re answering some GOOD questions sent in. Questions like
“Are Instagram guides beneficial and if so how can I use them?”
“What’s the best way to advertise yourself when starting?”
“How to build a following on Instagram”
“How to know when you should start charging..”
“Tips for hiring people on your team”
And…
“How to know when it’s time to rebrand while still making sure current clients know who you are.”
OOOHHH those are some incredible questions. And I can’t wait to dive on in. So don’t ya dare go anywhere, my friend! Answers to your biggest Q’s coming right now!
Even though it is a loaded question and there is a lot that could go into it. It also is pretty simple. People want some magical answer to stuff like this, with the secret recipe. That’s what people want these easy fast recipes, but the reality is it comes down to some basic principles. If you want more in-depth answers go back to previous episodes where we talk about Instagram growth and captions, which will give you a little more insight into these answers.
Posting consistently doesn’t have to be every day, it could be every other day. Just post consistently, show up consistently. It’s when people go sporadic with posting and go weeks without posting and that’s when you are shooting yourself in the foot.
Those are some basic principles that will help you engage your following. If you have heard these tips over and over again, then there is probably a reason. They work. Everything that we just said we do. There is no other secret.
At the time of this recording, here’s our personal opinion:
We think guides are useful and can become even more useful with time BUT, with the current way Instagram is pushing reels over guides and the current setup of guides, it’s not an IMMEDIATE game-changer that you HAVE to take advantage of. We think it could be beneficial and have seen people using them beneficially but if we had to tell you to pick between utilizing Reels or Guides we would say Reels. If you are feeling stretched thin, pause on Guides and focus on Reels and then pick up Guides after you have gotten consistent with Reels and posting.
Easy tips: create guides based on old content. (ex: compile captions with tips for clients, etc!). If you’re a product-based business you should 10000% take advantage of it with your shop items!
Overall, we both think guides WILL become a big deal. But at the current moment, we see Reels being a lot more useful (and pushed a lot harder by Instagram) for the majority of business owners at this time, and you don’t have to do everything all at once!!!
Examples:
Pay attention to their CHARACTER, not just their skills! You can teach someone skills, you can’t teach someone how to work hard, have integrity, be honest and respect you or other people. You can’t teach character but you can teach skills.
Have a clear team mission and core values that you can then communicate to new hires, interviewees so that YOU know what you’re looking for and THEY know what’s expected of them. These are the important things that you don’t think about when you are starting. Even if you are a solo team, have a team mission. What is the core foundational principle of your business that you can instill? Know your why so that people can come behind you and support your why and mission.
Tangible tips would be to ask around. Be open that you’re hiring. Post about it. Tell friends. And then be willing to wait for the right people. Don’t just hire anyone. That’ll hurt you more than help you. Wait for the RIGHT person/people to get the right people in the right seats. Having the right people on your team will change your business & life. When there’s a disconnect between your old brand and who you are now as you’ve grown, whether that’s the clients that you’re talking about or to. When you feel like there is a disconnect that is typically the time to rebrand. It doesn’t always have to mean logo and colors. It could be the visual part of who you are serving. When you have the money, invest in a professional rebrand. If you are pinching pennies you can do it yourself. But it is also a great place to invest in your business.
Share your story behind the new brand, why it represents you/what excites you about it. If it is a huge pivot, we don’t want it to stop you from rebranding but something you can do as an asset for you tells them the story behind it. Show behind the scenes of creating it/your inspiration board/sneak peeks of the new logo! Invite people into the process! Tease it with them a little bit or host a giveaway with the rebrand of your business. Inviting people into the process and sharing it with them.
DON’T OVERTHINK IT!! People probably won’t notice (or be confused) half as much as you think. It is very easy for us because we see the drastic change but to a client, it’s not. Make sure you’re still putting your face/yourself into your stuff! People will still be able to recognize YOU and your VALUE and not just a logo. Don’t negate the fact that people will always be able to recognize you and your value not just because of your logo. People won’t recognize you because of your logo, people will recognize you because you are YOU.
