If you’re a business owner you’ve probably heard the term “ideal client” thrown around a LOT. You’ve probably asked questions like: What does it even mean? What if I’m multi-passionate and want to work with all kinds of people!? What if I have NO idea who my ideal client even is? How do I know how to find them?
This episode is here to help you answer all those questions! In today’s show, we’re covering what an ideal client is, WHY you need to get VERY specific on who your ideal client (or otherwise called client avatar) is, and a BUNCH of questions to ask yourself to nail down WHO your business is serving and why.
Because we can tell you this, the businesses and companies that THRIVE are the ones that are SO specific on who they’re serving. They’re not serving the masses. They’re solving a problem their ideal client has.
Ready to get laser specific and hone in on who you’re speaking to in your business? You know you do my friend.
Someone who is not only a good fit for you and your business offerings but also who YOU are a good fit for! Dig even deeper. An ideal client does have to be superficial things like they have to wear boho attire, that’s not an ideal client per se. They could be people that lean towards more boho types of clothing, but the heart posture is so much more important than what they wear. It also comes down to recognizing that you may serve the people who prefer to be outdoors, that’s where your creative eye comes to life. Someone you’re going to serve incredibly well.
Trying to speak to everyone will result in you speaking to no one. Think about your buyer habit, people buy things when they resonate deeply and personally with things. They also buy stuff that very clearly communicates that this product or service solves a question or a need that they have. The more a business can communicate the answer to that question, then that’s more likely going to make that customer buy your product or service. People buy things when they resonate DEEPLY and PERSONALLY with something that ANSWERS their QUESTIONS or SOLVES their NEEDS. To speak and position your product or service in a way that answers someone’s specific problem, you have to narrow down who you’re speaking to.
The goal with marketing is to speak directly to a specific person and showcase how YOUR service or product solves THEIR problem or makes THEIR life better. And you have to be specific with that.
Create a client avatar: This is a whole blueprint describing a fictional person who is the PERFECT fit for you.
Even down to those little things will help you build out this whole picture and blueprint of this person you are trying to speak to. You are painting a picture of one person, but the reality is there are probably thousands of people that will fit that mold and they will come as you are speaking directly to them.
It helps you REALLY focus on WHO you’re speaking to and serving and trying to reach. If your ideal client avatar shops at Nordstrom, you probably won’t want to use thrifting analogies to reach them. Even the tiniest deals help you know how to speak directly to them. If your ideal client is struggling with making time for their family and kids, you can speak to that paint point with your babysitting services. (Just a random example, but knowing those pain points is vital to help show you can solve them!!!)
The more detailed you can make this avatar, the clearer your vision will be on how to reach them and how you can help make their life easier and solve their pain points. Without a client avatar, you’ll be shooting in the dark.
The avatar can absolutely change and evolve in time with you as you grow, but outlining from the very beginning will revolutionize your marketing and create a crystal clear map for you to follow to reach your people.
