If you are an entrepreneur (that includes wanna-be-entrepreneurs still on your journey of starting your own business) LISTEN. TO. THIS. EPISODE.
Today we got to talk with the incredible Kacia Fitzgerald. If you aren’t familiar with her, Kacia is a multi-passionate entrepreneur, speaker, podcaster, and CEO who’s on a mission to help women unapologetically share their voice & message with the world.
Our chat with Kacia today is JAM-PACKED with mic-drop moments. We were having to bite our tongues not to be shouting “YASSS” every 2 seconds. Today’s conversation is all about knowing when to pivot, pause, and push when it comes to your side hustle, business, or dream.
Kacia shares her journey of pivoting and recognizing when it’s time for something new. She shared SO many tangible ways for you to recognize those seasons for yourself and how to have the courage & confidence to embrace the pivot.
She then shared the balance of seasons of “push” and “pause”, how to know when your business needs each one, and how to go about embracing the “go” and the “slow.” Kacia camps out on talking about how to find fulfillment and joy in ALL seasons of business and the journey, not just the milestone moments.
She drops some POWERHOUSE truths that you’ll wanna write down to remember daily. This episode is seriously such a goldmine of encouragement, truth, and tangible information for all of us entrepreneurs and dreamers. We promise you’ll walk away with so much clarity and excitement for your business.
She is the host of the top-rated podcast EmpowerHER with over 5 million downloads, & the Founder & CEO of SheGoes Company.
The job Kacia had when she built her first business was IT Project Management and Engineering Recruiting. She was in this mode that Brene Brown would say is “Hustling for your worthiness”. She was not qualified for her job, and was trying to learn so much on the fly. She knew it wasn’t her thing forever. When she got into network marketing, it wasn’t for another stream of income, but another stream of fulfillment. She wanted to learn how to be more herself at 24. When you are in your job and you have to be a watered-down version of yourself because of your job. You won’t feel aligned.
Working on her business before and after work.Kacia focused on confidence building. That is at the root of anything that you are doing. Confidence is like a bucket, everyday you do something on your list or check something off that is another plop in your bucket. We are designed to want to belong in a community, so it is okay if you care what others think. But you should care about what you think most.
The microfocus of winning the day and the macro focus of where do you want to go.
The first question to ask yourself is, “Have you done the thing long enough to have enough data that you know?”. Don’t quite something and then have doubts on what would have happened if you went more in on it. Have you done it long enough with enough umf? Do you feel like you’re going to have regrets if you quit that thing right now? If you know for certain then it is time for you. You are the only person who can answer that question.
As humans, we are more likely to stay in something that is known rather than jump into something unknown. What do you want to be doing a year from now, not just what it sounds like or income but what do you want your Tuesday to feel like? What you are doing now is getting you closer to it or further from it? We’re never actually staying stagnant. If you can connect the dots to what is contributing to that bigger vision then you want to keep showing up for it.
When the why is strong enough the how figures itself out as you go.
Red Flags of when to Pivot:
Go back to that question of picturing yourself a year from now and asking yourself, “Does this makes sense?”.
Is it giving you the optionality, growth, and fulfillment that you are wanting?
What is it that you want? So often we are adopting beliefs from others because we are hustling so hard we haven’t taken the time to slow down. We live in this instant gratification and stimulus culture, where we are told getting there more quickly is better. There is a balance.
But what is scary is if you hustle so hard to where you want to go without any sort of alignment. You get there and not only do you not want it but then you look back at the path and feel it wasn’t worth it so then you throw in the towel proactively there.
If we go through this pattern of hustling to get there, misalignment happens and we don’t get to our biggest potential. You have a big vision of where you want to go, when we’re in something and decide to make this change we need to have tha internal pause to get clear on thet big vision. There is a big distance of where we want to go and where we are now.
What if you decided you are going to pause and ask yourself these questions of what you really want. Then decide.
The pause is necessary for you to be able to handle that big vision.
Think of aligned focused effort in the right direction. What’s your cake, the top three things that are going to move the needle forward? Everything else is sprinkles on top, so give yourself a layout. What are the tiny little things you need to do today to get that ball moving in the right direction? What’s your minimum baseline of how you want to show up, to maintain your business? For a season of pushing you are just cranking of the volume a little bit.
Focus in on layering in, even on your push season. Treat it as you are layering a cake. Even in a season of push you have to go back to your boundaries. When are you on and when are you off. Even in seasons of push you can have enjoyment in your life.
You also might be trying to wear “busy” like a badge of honor. How much are you robbing yourself of, if you are trying to take it all on? Something is giving. Your life is like a pizza pie, you only have so many slices.
We need to normalize that it is hard sometimes, but we don’t have to kick ourselves while we’re down in a down season. Telling ourselves we have to be alone in this. You don’t want to rob somebody else the feeling of getting to help you, so you are going to ask for help. People want to help you, don’t tell yourself the story that they don’t.
How long to Push:
Some people are short chapter people and some people are long chapter people. It is up to you where you are at in your life. What is your band width right now? It’s a personal question and analyzing it making sure you don’t have a success criteria for an old season version of yourself. There is no specific universal length of time.
Crank it up on being you. Be more yourself, be more honest. Crank the volume up on being you. Your secret sauce is who you are.
