Today we’re gonna talk ALL about COLLABS. And more specifically, how to get started with getting your foot in the door with brand partnerships.
In this episode, Evie and I walk you through a bunch of our top tips and steps to getting started in the collab space. From pitch emails to media kits to how to price yourself, we cover it all. If you’ve been wanting to begin getting paid to promote brands or products on your Instagram, but haven’t quite known where to start, you’re in the right place!
Create a list of brands you love on social
Brands that would be your ideal partnership. They would be an aligned fit for you. Or look around your home and see what brands you love and use!
Make sure you’re following them
Do not reach out to a brand to collab with them without following them.
Start sharing products you love that your followers have shown interest in.
Tag the brand! They’ll notice and shows that you do that already.
Start SMALL
Think mom-and-pop shops vs. Nike.
Send them a dang good pitch email
Don’t wait for companies to come to you. DO NOT DM! Go listen to Episode 092: How to write an email pitch.
Create a media kit
In the pitch email, you will want to include a media kit. It’s a breakdown of who you are, brand values, what your content pillars are, etc. Also your stats on the follower accounts, your follower’s demographics, and then your pricing for posts, story series, etc.
Offer product for post at first
Don’t start straight out of the gate expecting to get cash. Not every business has a budget for collaborations.
Under-promise, over-deliver!
Brands notice that. And ongoing relationships can be VERY lucrative and worthwhile for both parties in the long run!
How to Price Yourself
Price yourself 1% of your following for feed posts (industry standard). If you have 40k followers, for one feed post you would charge $400. You then can take into account your engagement for other pricing.
Don’t try to get any & every collab you possibly can get your hands on.
Make sure it’s authentic so it’s not spamming your followers. People can tell when things are inauthentic.
Don’t take “no” personally
It very easily could just be budget & timing for that company at that time. And don’t be afraid to keep reaching out – we have eventually landed a collab by consistently reaching out to a company for 2 years, finally buying some of their products ourselves, and doing a whole photoshoot to send to them to show them what I could do! Get scrappy!!!
If you’re trying to be an “Influencer”
If you’re building a following off of influencing and brand collaborations ONLY – we would highly recommend creating SOME sort of product that is your own to promote in addition to brand collaborations. Having something YOU are in control of vs. JUST promoting other people’s products is a smart way to leverage your audience and the platform you’re building.
