And it feels like sometimes every single “marketing expert” is telling you to tackle 500 different avenues of marketing- reels! FB ads! Pinterest! Youtube! Tiktok! Email list! Blogging! HELLPPP!!!!!!
If I just raised your stress levels even talking about all of those, TAKE A DEEP BREATH!
Today, we are going break down our personal perspective on what 3 marketing avenues we recommend most startup entrepreneurs focus on FIRST in their business. Sure, each marketing tool has a million different reasons each is great. But when you’re first starting out in business, you can’t do all of them at once and will need to focus on just a couple at a time.
As a business owner, especially an online business, having a website is absolutely VITAL to your success. It establishes credibility. It gives you authority. It helps share your business and how you can help & serve people even better. It’s your online virtual storefront. Let’s break down 3 areas of utilizing your website for marketing:
Some tips: create compelling copy that is crystal clear. It should not be confusing who you are and what you sell, make sure your branding is not cluttered/distracting from the info, and make sure your site navigation is easy to navigate and go through. Check out HotJar for more on that.

(Ex: buying your first home” if you’re a realtor, etc) Essentially helping your ideal client through a struggle, question, etc they may have and positioning yourself as the person who can help them through whatever problem they’re having or offer the solution they need!

Pinterest is a search engine in and of itself. Think about when you are looking for a new rug, planning an event, or looking for outfits. Oftentimes we end up on Pinterest for inspiration or information. Pinterest can drive TONS of traffic to your website and therefore to your product or service!
To get started with Pinterest, connect your Pinterest to all your accounts. Your website, blog, Instagram in this case! So you can easily pin from those platforms directly onto Pinterest!
Tailwind is the BIGGEST lifesaver when it comes to Pinterest. It schedules out your pins for you so you don’t have to spend time pinning every single day. Ideally, you want to pin 3-5 pins every day and have as many as possibly linked to your blog, website, etc.

Even though we gave you 3 marketing avenues to tackle first, we can’t recommend enough: don’t half-ass all 3. It’s better to have to focus on one at a time if you can only handle one! Don’t try to tackle all 3 in one week. Get your website up and rolling before you try to tackle Pinterest hardcore. Get your Instagram rolling before you try to add something else in, like TikTok or youtube, etc.
But DO NOT get stuck in the perfectionism hole. We will ALWAYS have more we could do in our businesses. Nothing will ever be flawless. Just get a solid grip on things before adding another strategy to your plate.
Email lists are the fourth thing we’d put immediately after website, Instagram, and Pinterest. You have to have a website in order to have an email list signup. Pinterest and Instagram are GREAT places to advertise opt-ins for email list signups. Basically, you’d want at least one of those tools in place before starting an email list. Two is even better. Three is amazing.
But we wanted to make sure you knew in this conversation around marketing avenues: email lists are AMAZINGGGG business tools. One of a kind. YOU are in control of your email list. There aren’t any rules or regulations. No algorithm. No platform that could shut you down. So don’t sleep on an email list. But we personally recommend tackling your website, Instagram, and Pinterest first and then diving headlong into your email list immediately after.
