Who out there struggles to know what the HECK to say on Instagram? If you stare at your screen feeling worthless because NOTHING is coming to your brain to say, then this podcast episode was tailor-made for YOU.
One of the most common problems people struggle with when it comes to Instagram (or social media even) is not knowing what to post. We FEEL you, so much. Even now we have days where we look at our feed and our brain goes BLANK. Straight up there’s nothing of value happening in there and we feel like we have nothing to say. And then hopping on Instagram to see everything else others are putting out there often overwhelms us and we feel even worse about having nothing to say.
Please tell us we’re not alone? Anyone else? If we just described the biggest dilemma you face when it comes to growing your Instagram, you are NOT alone. We ALL struggle with writer’s block and just not knowing what to say at one point or another.
We want to help fix that. We’re giving you a dump truck of knowledge that will help you know WHAT to say on the gram, and HOW to say it. PLUS we’re straight-up giving you 15 Instagram caption prompts. FOR FREE. Just right here waiting for you!
Different Types of Captions
These will become the content pillars that you fall back to. You will want to rotate between these because it’s a wide variety of different ways you can connect with your audience and grow.
- Educational: teaching your potential client anything about your industry.
- Inspirational: life advice, anything that hits your heart, that you think will connect with others and make their day better. A lot of our faith-based captions come from this route. What story could you share that will touch someone or make them feel something?
- Entertaining: funny, relatable, down to earth. A humorous mom story, or dad jokes. It will connect in an entertaining, uplifting way with your readers and listeners. Could fall to watching a movie.
- Relatable: that ties in and can be bridged back in forth between the other four, but the bottom line is maybe you made a huge mistake last week and this is what I’ve learned from it. Share something relatable and then a life lesson or humor in there that ties it back to you. The main point is to connect on a human and authentic level with your audience.
Caption Ideas
- Share customer reviews.
- A life lesson you learned this week or month that could help someone else in a similar situation.
- What makes you different from other competitors in your field (what about your product or service sets you apart?).
- Share some books, podcasts, or tv shows you’ve consumed lately and ask for other recommendations too
- Share a quirk or lifestyle choice you have that’s a little off the beaten path and ask “who else does that too?”.
- Take them BTS (behind the scenes) on a life project. Ex: gardening, home renovations, meal planning, etc.
- Take them BTS (behind the scenes) on a business project. Ex: On-site serving a customer, BTS of creating your product or service, a team meeting, etc.
- A day in your life – turn this into a carousel on IG of little snippets of your day (time-lapse, pictures) or even a Reel.
- Introduction post – share a few fun facts about yourself and ask others to share theirs
- Talk about a hobby you love that has nothing to do with what you do for work. Why do you love it, what has it added to your life, how has it impacted your life?
- Talk about a pain point your ideal customer has and how you’ve solved it for a past customer. Ex: If you’re an interior designer, talk about how to style shelves, how to pick the right size rug for a room, etc.
- Talk about a mistake you made in business and what you learned from it. This is combining educational and relatable.
- Ten things you wish you knew when you first started your business.
- 3 tips for a pain-free ___. Insert the pain point your ideal customer has. Ex: If you’re a hairstylist, give 3 tips for a pain-free salon visit. Tell your client how to prep for their long color appointment. Tell them how to bring in a photo of what they’re wanting, do or don’t wash their hair beforehand, etc.
- Inspirational quote paired with a graphic and talk about what it means to you/dive into the quote more in-depth.
Here are a few tips:
- Write good hooks. Think about “honest clickbait”. You’re intentionally making it where people want to stop their scroll and they want to read more. A dramatic statement or a question.
- Always include a call to action. Invite your audience into conversation, you want them to get used to them doing things that you ask. Do it every time even when no one responds. You have to teach people to interact with you.
- Format the text in a readable way. Break up paragraphs to be small and is not a big thick wall of text that is unreadable. It will help people stick around.
For the person out there who is struggling with captions and feeling overwhelmed. Hopefully, this was helpful for you so that you can succeed.
