Now, whether this is your first episode here or you’ve been around since day one, let’s just give a quick recap of one of the #1 things we teach to build a brand that lasts: CONNECTION.
We’re firm believers in building a personal brand that allows you to connect with your customers. And with that, when it comes to Instagram, we talk a LOT about showing up as YOU (not just your product or service that you offer) and connecting with your audience on a human-to-human level.
But let us guess: the following thought has gone through your mind at one point or another: “but I don’t even know what to share?! My life is just…. Boring. No one wants to see that??”
Incorrect. We can guarantee there’s far more than you realize that people want to see, and it’s probably more your perspective that’s getting in your way of knowing what to share. So, in today’s episode, we’re going to tear down the mindset obstacle that’s holding you back so you can begin to create and share from a free place. We then dive into the nitty-gritty of what to post on IG where we LOAD UP your toolbelt with topics, ideas, and resources for you to use to create that long-lasting connection with your audience.
If you’re ready to stop feeling overwhelmed (or just lost) with posting personal content on Instagram, today’s episode is custom-made JUST FOR YOU.
First and foremost: We are FIRM believers in the concept of personal branding, especially on your marketing storefronts, like Instagram. It’s one of the most powerful ways you can create deep connections and stand out in the crowd of competition. Sharing personal aspects of your life connects you to other human beings.
If you’re newer here or just overall not familiar with the concept of personal branding, go listen to

You’ll be able to dive deeper into the strategy there and understand even more of why we believe this can and will revolutionize your marketing and your business.
We are going to talk about the obstacles which are knowing how to share personal things when you feel like you have nothing interesting to share. The truth is: YOUR LIFE IS NOT BORING. Just because you know everything that happens in your day-to-day life doesn’t mean everyone else does. People LOVE seeing “behind the scenes” glimpses into your life. Maybe even sit back and ask yourself: “is my life truly boring? Or am I bored with it?” Because that’s an ENTIRELY different conversation. We can guarantee your life isn’t BORING. Your perspective on it, though, might be hindering your creativity. Everybody is unique. You are beautiful and unique and awesome. Change the view lens of looking at your life and thinking that it is mundane. There is beauty all around us and we have to open our eyes to that.
Take a step back. Ask yourself: “what little moments, unique habits, routines, opportunities are you glossing over because they feel ‘normal’ that would be interesting to someone else?”
From your process in cleaning your kitchen to your date night game, you play with your spouse, YOUR LIFE IS FASCINATING. Even more so, it’s an incredible opportunity to open the doors and build a connection with other people by simply sharing a REAL glimpse into life.
People are sick of picture-perfect. They crave authenticity. SO SHARE IT. Connect with people. Show the real, the raw, the unfiltered. It may feel “boring” to you at times, but people love it and they WILL connect with it.
GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY, and start SHOWING UP. The bonus is that oftentimes, by seeing an outsider’s view of your life, you’re able to shift your perspective and recognize your little joys, blessings, and fun gems that make it so special.
Now that we’ve talked a bit about mindset this and squashing the lie that your life is not boring, let’s shift to some practical tips on different things you can share that people LOVE seeing/interacting with.
Intentionally don’t pick a day where all your life routines are perfect. Genuinely show up and share a typical day in your life. People LOVE watching how other people’s days look. It’s fascinating to see how other people live. Share your routines. Share what your daily schedule looks like. Bring people along in your stories on a day in your life and then turn that into an IGTV when you’re done.
If you don’t want to do a full-blown day in your life, do before and after story photos of a messy living room where you say “click to clean my room with me” and then take an after photo when it’s all done. Even something as “mundane” as that people LOVE seeing. Especially tapping and seeing the satisfaction of messing to clean. People LOVE it.
Share as much as you are willing or want to share and you get to decide that boundary. Share personal relationships in general that you are willing to tackle online. This could take many different forms:
Whether that is food, tv shows, movies, music, books, celebrities, podcasts. People love talking about things that they love and they LOVE talking about their cult fan favorites. Ways to do this practically are to talk about these things in your stories, do feed posts or story question boxes asking people for recommendations on their favorite books, movies, or tv shows.
Things you love doing that don’t necessarily revolve around your business or what you typically talk about or how you make money. Your hobbies are more interesting than you think and incorporating those into what you post, people will love.
Here are some to help get your wheels spinning:
You could share this on posts or stories. Any literal format on Instagram or social media.
People LOVE seeing the HOW behind a business. So show them. Don’t keep it a secret. Show the process. People will connect with you as a business owner and a brand better when you invite them in AND giving them buy-in.
For example: ask them to choose the color and font of your next design. Give them 2 options and they pick one.
Showing up and showcasing those real moments. People LOVE seeing honest messes. ESPECIALLY on Instagram. It reminds us all that we’re not alone in our own mess. Don’t be afraid to show up in stories with no makeup on if you’re comfortable doing so. People love seeing reality. Show the mess your kid just made on the floor and ask if any mamas out there relate? Talk about how your laundry isn’t done and you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the to-do’s on your plate letting your followers know if this is their situation too. They’re not alone. Show up and share that, it might feel very boring to you, but it does not to the rest of the world.
Lastly, we just want to say if you don’t feel like showing up one day or posting. Then don’t. You have permission to not feel like you have to be “on” every dang day of your life. There are so many days we just don’t have the energy or desire to story or post on Instagram, and that’s OKAY. Give yourself the grace to rest. Give yourself the grace to make memories without grabbing your phone to story it. While Instagram is amazing for marketing your business, it’s not everything, nor should it be treated like a god of our lives.
You have permission to take a break if you need it. Because if you’re constantly coming to the app uninspired and feeling dejected, that’s going to come across in your content and everything you create. So take a break. It’s okay.
