Today Lindsey is taking over! We decided to split up some solo shows for the fall season and do some deep dives into separate Q&A’s.
There’s a lot of fun personal things that don’t make sense for us both to talk about on solo shows, so we figured it would be fun to do separate solo shows to tackle different topics that apply more specifically to us.
Lindsey polled you guys a couple of weeks ago and got some INCREDIBLE questions. Seriously there were too many good ones but real talk… we’re covering a LOT of territories today.
From personal life updates (like how building their home on their Florida land) is going, to their current Kansas renovation. To questions like “What’s your work/life schedule like as a mom” “how to do prep for big course launches” and then ending out the episode with some powerful heart talks answering questions like “How do you discern between what you think you want for your life vs what God wants for you?” AND “how to not feel like you’re begging for attention every time you post on Instagram.”
What helps me a TON is being all in when I’m at work or all in when I’m with Eloise. When she was younger it genuinely WAS easier to multitask, before she could crawl she could sit or play or just chill in a rocker at my feet while I worked. Now that she’s two I pretty much cannot actively work and be watching her at the same time. She needs/wants attention, if I try to work while watching her it’s half-assed work which just means I’m spinning my wheels getting nothing done. I can post to Instagram when I’m with her but that’s about it. And if it’s a reel then forget about it.
I try and implement office hours and work with Andrew to plan our weeks to know who is watching her when.
I’m SO fortunate to have Andrew and our situation is different compared to others. We were intentional with wanting him to get out of the military so he could be more at home with Eloise. He does more house and life maintenance as his “work” and then watches Eloise when I’m working. Or we do daycare or babysitter, whether that’s a friend or a family member. Then I will watch Eloise when Andrew’s working on the house, doing bills and paperwork.
When I first started my business as a photographer, I remember struggling before I found out what presets were. I had a vision of what I wanted my style to be and at the very beginning, I wanted a super light and airy film style. Then as I tried to dabble in that I realized that didn’t accurately represent me, I was trying to obtain a style that I thought was cool. After searching for different presets for a while, I tried MastinLab for a while, didn’t like those. Realizing presets will only get you so far you still need to hone in on your style and what it is you like and what attracts you to a photograph. For me, I started to naturally gravitate towards deep rich tones with a lot of contrast but not overly contrasted. I found some presets that gave me a good base and then tweaked from there. Once you find presets that are a good fit for you and can work magic off of, that will help hone into your style.
To describe in a sentence would be: rich, true to life, and not look dated in 50 years. It looks like it is true to life and sprinkled a little magic on it.
This Kansas House renovation has been a LOT. Maybe in three years looking back, we can all laugh, but we’re still in the thick of it where I’m slightly bitter and trying to have a good attitude on everything. With all that being said here are a few “funny” stories for you:
This question could be an ENTIRE podcast episode but here are some bullet points:
We lived in Hawaii for three and a half years and just moved back to Kansas. In that process of moving, we left Hawaii in January and we cross country road tripped. We got to Arizona and the house was nowhere near done but when we were in Arizona we thought we would be tired, but weren’t and decided to keep going. We decided to do a cross-country road trip all the way south and then head back up to Kansas after.
We get to Florida and had no plans to buy land in Florida, we had just bought a house in Kansas. We visited our friends Ryan and Chelsie in Flagler Beach, Florida and they own 6 acres of land five minutes from the beach and behind them was another 6 acres of land that Chelsea’s parents owned. They were showing us their land, and I remember being out to dinner on the last night and they were telling us how her parents own that land but already live five minutes away, and they’re probably going to sell it. We got in the car and Andrew was like what if we bought that land? It kept coming back to us and we never thought we would but we kept coming back separately saying we should. It was completely a God thing. We didn’t say anything to Chelsea and Ryan but on the drive back to my mom’s house we called and told them we were considering purchasing that land from their parents. We got in contact with her parents and bought the land.
Nothing is happening yet. Planning to start building or breaking ground hopefully early winter in 2022.
Some questions to ask yourself:
We think to do God’s will for our lives we HAVE to work at a church or in ministry and that’s just not true. All of our life is sacred to the Lord. God did not create Christians to live in a Christian bubble, to preach the gospel to Christians, and work in churches. God also created incredible people for accounting, contracting, dentistry. He’s created you with unique skills that you can apply to the marketplace and fuse your faith into that.
He gives us free will, God creates us with talents and giftings and has a plan for us. That plan is not a make or break on the career you choose in your life. As long as it’s not against his word, but as long as you are glorifying the Lord through talents He’s giving you. Go off into that sphere and do it for the glory of God.
How can you still be a light in that space?
It is normal in the sense that you’re NOT alone in feeling that. SO many people feel like they’re asking for attention by showing up online.
BUT it SHOULD NOT be normal behavior. Here’s why.
You have to have the confidence within you to KNOW you’re a child of the KING. A daughter or son of Christ. You have to stand firm in the foundation that God created you to be here, in this world, right now, and that He DOES NOT MAKE MISTAKES. He did not make a mistake when you were born. He did not make a mistake in putting you in the area of life you are in now. He did not make a mistake with you.
You are not being a burden by showing up today. You are not being a burden by asking someone to pay for an incredible service you have created that will serve and help them.
And not that He created you necessarily to be a social media superstar. That’s not what I’m saying. You can be confident and secure in who you are and just genuinely not give a dang about Instagram or showing up and that’s fine.
If you’re wanting to show up on Instagram for your business, and your lack of confidence is what’s stopping you that is where you need to do some heart work. That’s where you need to go to the route of the issue.
Other than confidence in yourself you need to have confidence in the product or service that you provide. You have to know that it is life-changing. Even if it is clay earrings, look at that and ask yourself how is this changing a woman’s life when they buy them? Is it making them feel more beautiful, they feel like they can leave the house today because they feel like a rockstar? Even if what you are selling is a material item, there is a way that it changes people’s life. You need to get down to the route of that.
