Create Easier Ways to Access Reading
- Overdrive/Libby/CloudLibrary: these are all apps that are an electronic borrowing partner with your library system. They partner with your local library to rent ebooks or audiobooks.
- Kobo Books
- Libro.fm (independent bookstores): same as audible, but it supports local bookstores.
- Library books: get a library card, the easiest way to access books for free.
- Audible
- ThriftBooks: buying books but used and cheaper.
- Thrifting books
Make it FUN & EASY
To get back into it, start with books that are fascinating to you (whether fiction or non). Join a book club, start your own, or read with friends. Another way to connect with other people is #bookstagram or book podcasts.
Figure out how you like to consume books the fastest/easiest. Get an e-reader if you like it, if not you can listen to audiobooks. You can multi-task with walking or being in the car. Or physical books. Try a variety of each and see which form you like to consume books.
Set Goals for Yourself
Use your notes app on your phone so you can check stuff off. You can also have them categorized by genre. You can also use GoodReads to connect with other people and get inspiration from your friends.
Set a goal of how much you want to read (make them VERY attainable).
Adjust your routines/lifestyle to accommodate reading
Instead of reaching for your phone during lunch or breaks or while waiting in an office, etc, reach for your book. If you’re wanting to prioritize more reading, you’re probably will have to create new routines and adjust what your current habits are to accommodate that.
Eliminate distractions, such as canceling tv provider subscriptions (even for a season to get your reading ball rolling). Once you’re in the habit of reaching for your book over your tv you can sometimes keep those subscriptions. You don’t have to be this all-or-nothing person cutting everything out.
Wrapping up you can wake up earlier to read in the mornings. Read as a part of your evening routine. You can listen to audiobooks in the car/shower/doing dishes/nursing/etc. Find ways that create a lifestyle that revolves around books.
