Calling all my photographers out there!! This episode is about to be a little nugget of fun, short and sweet insight into our gear bags. If you’re in a season of growing your gear list, you’re wanting to know what lenses and all that jazz we use, OR you’re just curious about what kind of gear goes into shooting professional photography this episode is for you!
Before we go any further, though, I wanted to take a moment to discuss what you NEED as a photographer. The reality is, friend, you don’t have to have ALL THE GEAR UNDER THE SUN. And you especially don’t have to have it when you first start out.
We’re are about to break down a bunch of gear that we have and use but please keep in mind that we’ve been accumulating this for YEARS. We remember what it feels like to see all these photographers using these fancy-schmancy (and expensive as HECK) lenses or pieces of gear, and it’s easy to feel like “ugh, well I’ll never succeed until I get all of that!”. You do NOT need all the fanciest, newest, nicest gear in the world. In fact, sometimes the simpler the better! We both use one specific lens 80% of the time we’re shooting. You don’t need a million pieces of the newest, nicest equipment in order to be a dang good photographer.

There is a free pdf visual guide to go along with this episode, since it is kind of nice to see what we’re talking about visually. Just head to www.theheartuniversity.com/gear to download the guide. Link in the show notes as well!
Final point: You’ll notice we don’t have all the gear under the sun. Our setup for wedding days is pretty minimal. You don’t NEED the biggest new lens on the block always. You don’t always need the fanciest thing. We hope this encourages you to use what you have, slowly grow your gear bag over time, and find what works best for YOU. What you love might not be what someone else loves and that’s OKAY.
