In today’s girl chat, we talked with Grace all about how to handle fear of what people think of you and practical ways to go about standing firm in your identity and who God has called you to be. We then dive into how to balance societal norms while standing firm in your beliefs, how to share love and the Lord with others, and how to handle people’s beliefs that Christians are “lame.”
This episode really feels like a fireside girl chat with a glass of wine in hand. Grace is so relatable and full of spunk and life and her story and words will hand down leave you feeling filled up today.
Grace’s Story
Grace is the definition of your internet BFF. She is refreshing, relatable, and inspirational. Through her three books, her podcast, and her mini books on Instagram, Grace helps women in their twenties navigate challenges within college life, their relationship to their body image, and how to settle into adult life. Through the lens of faith, Grace is also here to help redefine what it means to be a Christian by showing others that Christianity is not lame–it is an adventure worth living.
“What Will They Think”
All of Grace’s book titles have been questioned. There are so many women out there that want to live this bold life, ready to do these things, and live this life. We think that and then we stop because we worry about what others are going to think. If you want to live this life of pursuing your passions you can’t look to the left and right of what other people think of you. In the book, Grace talks about nine women in the Bible and how Jesus called women up. He didn’t call them out but called them up to be called into His calling.
3 Steps to stop caring about what others think
Realize that you aren’t going to please everyone. There is always going to be someone prettier than you, someone, more successful than you.
Give yourself grace. You might suck. That’s okay. You’re not going to get better by being perfect.
Be grounded in scripture. And put yourself in an environment that is suited for growth.
Balancing societal norms while living a strong Christian lifestyle
We think being Christlike is always in a setting of being at church, but loving people crazy well and not waking up and expecting anything in return is also being Christlike. People always need a listening ear, someone to be there when they are in the wilderness and, love them well.
There are a lot of Christians who are really great at talking theology, going to Bible studies, and sitting in a circle talking about the Bible. But there are not a lot of Christians looking and seeing other cultures. God sees them, so you have to be looking and willing to see the people living a different life than you. You need to be rooted in Christ but see them as Christ sees them.
