Today we have a returning guest, and one of our favorite people on the planet. Brady Clayton. If you don’t know, Brady is our go-to videographer for The Heart University, and he’s INCREDIBLE at what he does. We had him on at the very beginning of this show on episode 13. And we felt like it’s been 2 years, we need the man the myth the legend back on this show.
We talked with Brady about how he’s built a brand that stands out in a saturated market, how his journey with an “unsuccessful” opportunity actually led to even bigger opportunities and success, and his advice and encouragement for any service-based entrepreneurs looking to build a brand that has a solid, repeat client base and stands out from the competition. We then kinda segue into his thoughts on how social media is leaning towards video and his advice for any entrepreneur looking to take advantage of the change in marketing and harness it to our advantage.
Brady’s Story
For anyone who hasn’t got the pleasure of knowing Brady, He’s a Texas native and a brand videographer and educator who creates hype brand videos for influencers and brands across the U.S and the globe. When he’s not geeking out over the next project he’s filming, he’s going on spontaneous road trips, spending way too much time on Instagram, watching movies to fuel his creativity, reading books about lost treasure, or searching for cheap flights to beautiful places to travel to with his gorgeous wife Quinn and their two boys.
Why videography
Brady has had a fascination with video ever since he was a little boy (8 years old) where he would have his siblings dress up in costumes, he would run around with a VHS camcorder and record all these action stories. He wanted to get into filmmaking but social media hadn’t been invented yet. So the only way to do that was actually going to Hollywood California and getting into traditional filmmaking. He forgot about it, moved on with his life, and got into politics. He was the Executive director for the Dallas GOP, and in 2016 at 21 he got fired from that job. Starting from scratch he asked himself, “What makes me happy?” and he remembered that eight-year-old boy with the VHS camcorder.
With a 5D Mark 3, Brady started filming random videos for 300 bucks a pop here and there trying to make ends meet. Slowly working his butt off he started to branch into the branding sphere. Brady learned that it is never a waste of time to jump into something, even if it doesn’t work out because you have no idea the opportunities that could open up for you.
Working for Larger Companies or Organizations
The majority of big brands that Brady works with come from about 85-90% word of mouth. People on social media saw a video he did for someone else. It is all word of mouth. He has pitched a few people and businesses but for the most part, people come to him.
Once a company reaches out he will set up a consultation, a meet and greet. Essentially walk through the whole scripting and shot list process and then in a few weeks, they will shoot the whole thing.
Video & Social Media
Video is dominating in every aspect and is doubling and tripling every year. 82% of all consumer traffic at the end of this year will be video content. Video is now worth a 1000 pictures, it is the next and new median of how we connect and feel emotion. We are able to establish an emotional connection that is more intense and real than an image can. We are rapidly growing in how we are able to communicate and it is only going to get bigger. Video is the most powerful connector on social media right now.
