We’re back today with part two of our series interviewing past brides of ours. Today, welcome to the show Sulli Lichnovsky one of Evie’s past brides from 2021. Sulli was a fun bride to interview because she’s also a photographer who is IN this industry as well. So she has a dual perspective which brings another element to today’s conversation.
Today we ask Sulli some hard-hitting questions about her experience working with Evie, things Evie did that blew her away, AND some things Evie could have done better. We ask her for her top tips on choosing vendors for her wedding, and if she had to redo her wedding all over again…what would she change.
Sulli’s Story
Sulli is a daughter, sister, friend, follower of Jesus, and lover of love. She is a wedding and elopement photographer based in Texas. Ben and she met when she was 11 and they were both in a youth theater production of Music Man. That is where they became friends but did not start dating until they were in their twenties.
What was your overall wedding planning experience like?
Sulli loved wedding planning. They got married locally in Montgomery, Texas. They had to decide to go with a church instead of a venue because they were still dealing with remnants of Covid regulations. As a photographer, Sulli dealt with a lot of brides where the venue canceled on them or the venues had to abide by local regulations. So instead they got married outside in a field next to the church. They had this beautiful outside area, where their ceremony space was and then they bumped over to their home church and that is where the reception was.
Before wedding planning, Sulli had made a deal with herself that she would not be stressed. She made the decision before the planning process started to enjoy it, and choose joy. Wedding planning is a lot and there are so many things you can easily get stressed over, but what do you do with that?
Why did you choose Evie originally as your photographer?
Being a photographer herself that was 75% of their budget. Nothing else mattered. Sulli knew if she had a good photographer and beautiful colors, everything would be beautiful. Choosing Evie was the easiest decision, she only reached out to Evie and no other photographers. She wanted someone reliable, and personable, and know the person showing up was like one of her best friends from high school.
What are things that blew you away that Evie did throughout the experience working with her?
Two things come to mind, one was more Evie’s character and then the other is things she did.
First of all, her personality and how she incorporates a very personable and approachable style with her communication and with her clients. She felt like she could approach her with whatever was going on and ask questions. It goes along with taking off the corporate hat and being human with fellow humans. Yes be professional but also be human.
On the wedding day, one of Sulli’s bridesmaids got a blister and needed a band-aid. Ben remembers Landon running to the car and going to their emergency kit and getting a band-aid. That little thing made them feel so held and loved on their day. Another thing was Sulli got ready at her parent’s house and the second they got there they felt like family. Communication was amazing and Evie sent them a bottle of champagne the day she delivered the gallery.
Biggest lessons about hiring wedding vendors
Do you prioritize photo or video? Start there. That’s also Sulli’s photography self-speaking. But the first step is the venue, the dates are a little more set, especially if you have a certain venue. Based on what you prioritize, reach out to your photographer and then see if they have any videographers that they recommend or any other vendors.
Things to Change
The only thing Sulli would change (this has to do with the circumstances that they were given at the time they planned their wedding) would be the reception space. It was definitely too small. Their priorities were people, photography, and flowers. People were a huge priority for them and they wanted everyone there. So they had 300 guests at their wedding and it was the most fun chaotic group ever. She would not change the people, but if she could change the venue size she would. The reception venue did affect who stayed. Sulli would recommend not switching venue locations and making sure there is enough space for everyone.
