If you’ve ever wanted to start journaling or have tried to in the past, but have dropped it out of the pressure to keep it up or not knowing how to start in today’s conversation, Sopha shares her experience and heart on the topic of journaling in a way that’s so refreshing and simple. To start us off in today’s episode, Sopha shared the story of her unbelievable childhood and past which is SO powerful and so full of God’s grace. She then gives us a beautiful breakdown of the value of journaling, how to not feel daunted by it, how to find a rhythm for yourself, encouragement for anyone who’s currently feeling lost in a sea of unknowns or struggles, and so much more.
Sopha’s Story
Sopha is a wife to her best friend Anthony, a mother to her two amazing boys Harlem & Bronx, and the Founder of Livedeeplyrooted. Sopha is passionate about helping others discover their purpose and truth about themselves. She’s also passionate about God, reading books, journaling, traveling, baking, and spending time with her family.
100 Days of Living Deeply Rooted: A Devotional Journal
This journal was birthed out of a very dark season for Sopha, not even just her personally but with family members as well. Sopha ended up in the hospital for medical issues and while in there she had a lot of time to think and reflect on her life and where she wanted to be. It was then that God was downloading so much information to her. She felt she could have written a 365 devotional based on all the information and wisdom God gave her. This devotional was written because there was so much needing to be said for those walking in a season of darkness, to encourage them and inspire them. To not fear and to truly trust in God. That God would carry them out of whatever circumstances.
Why Start Journaling
The biggest thing you can get out of journaling is an outlet for yourself and whatever is going through your mind in that season. It can be a safe space for you. With journaling, you can always go back and see where you have been and where God has brought you. Journalling for Sopha is a reminder of God’s goodness and faithfulness.
Journaling Consistent
It depends on the season. When Sopha is in motherhood season and in that fourth trimester postpartum, she’s going to get a journal in when she has time. If you’re just getting into journaling: mornings are a great place to begin, because you can start the day off resetting from yesterday. Journalling doesn’t have to be an hour, it can be five to ten minutes.
Truth to feel rooted
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
