Today is just a raw girl chat talking about all things pregnancy, postpartum, & motherhood. The joys, the unexpected, and everything in between. Sarah shares her experiences through pregnancy, and postpartum including sharing her experience with a c-section birth. And I just want to pause here because we wanted to give a quick trigger warning for a traumatic birth story – specifically with a c-section, so if you are in a place where hearing someone else’s story would be triggering and need to skip this episode, we FULLY support that, friend.
Sarah’s Story
Sarah grew an audience of over half a million Instagram followers by bringing humor and relatable content to everyday struggles. With a mission to help her followers embrace their imperfections, laugh through the hard times, and live their best kid lives Sarah has turned Big Kid Problems into a relatable and infectious brand.
But her adulting content took a turn when Sarah became a new mom! Enter the next era of Big Kid Problems: Bottle Service, a new kind of pregnancy and motherhood podcast.
Inspiration for Big Kid Problems
Sarah started Big Kid Problems back in college before Instagram was a thing. She wanted a place to make jokes about where she was in life. Sarah was about to join the adult world and wanted to make up jokes about that transition. She kept it going in her twenties, she ended up moving to New York and getting a job. She did it for funsies and then somewhere in her mid-twenties it took on a life of its own and became a business opportunity. She quit her corporate job and did Big Kid Problems full-time.
Sarah got this idea of when she gets pregnant she wants to create a week-by-week pregnancy podcast about her experience and what is happening with baby and mom each week, thus Bottle Service was born.
Things you wish people told you about motherhood or postpartum more specifically
Sarah feels like she wasn’t prepared for how amazing it would be. She consumed a lot of content making fun of motherhood, and it’s actually been a lot more fun than she thought.
The expectation of “bouncing back” she had totally warped unrealistic expectations.
Going through a hard season
It is for a season of time but it’s not forever. You feel so not yourself in postpartum, it’s the new you, but it’s not. You will get through it. Were very good at getting through things or finding hacks to ease discomfort and with postpartum you have to muddle through it.
What was your favorite part of postpartum?
The baby snuggles. Those first few weeks where they are so very sleepy and all they want to do is snuggle on your chest, that is heaven.
Pelvic floor physical therapy was such a beneficial thing and everyone should look into it!
What is your favorite book you’ve read recently?
