Today, we are thrilled to introduce our dear friend, Hannah Rosser, to the show. In this episode, we dive deep into Hannah’s journey, from how she first got started with her photography business to a plot twist pivot moment that transformed her photography style and therefore career. We chat about the art of storytelling in photography and why styled shoots are crucial for any photographer. Hannah also gave us a legit breakdown of exactly how she directs and poses her couples during shoots and how to seamlessly incorporate storytelling into the craziness of a wedding day.
Hannah’s Story
Hannah is not your average wedding photographer. She’s a destination documentary-style wedding photographer who has beautifully captured more than 100 weddings all over the world. What sets Hannah apart is her ability to build a distinctly personalized and recognizable brand and, in the process, she’s established a thriving six-figure business from the ground up. She’s living the dream, getting paid to tell stories through digital and film formats in the most enchanting locations on the planet. But what’s even more impressive is her passion for teaching other photographers how to level up their portfolios and develop their ideal clientele.
Styled shoots & Models
Finding models Hannah has done a couple of calls on IG and found professional. To find her best work she has found using a couple that isn’t a professional model. It helps her grow and know how to direct them better.
When was it that you figured out your editing style?
The service she was offering and the couple she was working with, she had created a space where they could 100% be themselves. She wanted to create something where they walked away feeling empowered and that she captured them in a way that no one had been able to for them before.
Hannah had a client hire her and wanted Hannah to do a more filming style. Asking if she could shoot more blurry photos. The wedding day was the first time where she felt creative and could do whatever she wanted. The freedom she gifted her had Hannah create her favorite work she’d ever done. It was her first time also seeing her ideal client in person and it provided that spark. She went home to edit and it was so easy.
How to storytelling
Instead of trying to fill the space, you’re trying to give space. You need to be okay with awkward silences. Leading up to the session, you can prepare them for how the storytelling that will take place during the session. Hannah also gives a what to expect email, with examples of prompts and how it will flow. A lot of it is the language you use leading up.
Hannah has started stacking poses. So then they can have the freedom to do what they want and flow. It’s a more open-ended longer thing.
Less is better than more when it comes to props.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned in business?
We all have this level of comparison that we go through. Learn the boundaries of what you are doing where you want to go and where everyone else is going. Comparison is the thief of joy. Figure out the best way to stop that comparison cycle.
