This recording is from an interview that we did on Mary Marantz’s podcast a few months ago. It was SUCH a powerful conversation that we wanted to make sure YOU, our listeners, got to join the conversation as well.
If you’ve ever struggled with imposter syndrome, how to run a business through a biblical worldview, or how to avoid falling into the trap of becoming paralyzed by fear, if ANY of that sounds like something you’d like to chat about, you’re in the right spot.
In today’s conversation with Mary, we talked about everything mentioned, PLUS what to do when you feel far from the Lord, how to create content without losing yourself in the process, how to prioritize rest, how to focus on slow growth in order to create strong roots, and so much more that we PROMISE will bless your socks off today.
Mary is a powerhouse entrepreneur, believer, and human being, and this episode will bless and wrecked us in so many ways and we know it’ll do the same for you. So plug-in those headphones, grab your favorite drink, and let’s sit down for a deep and beautiful heart-to-heart conversation.
We are co-running the business with the Lord, He is our co-CEO. Your perspective shifts from trying to muster all the strength in your own yourself to make the money and make the success, instead your perspective shifts to giving it to the Lord. Ask Him to bless it and follow what He has for you, making sure it is aligned with what He has and what purpose is for you. After that let Him run it. Let Him bless it.
The freedom and clarity that comes when you are walking with the Lord. There isn’t that sense of striving or pressure that it is on you to muster enough strength, wisdom, or strategy. It comes down to a sense of peace and clarity when you know that you are aligned with what the Lord has for you and where He has you. Everything changes.
It’s spiritually getting back into the word, making that quiet time a priority. Everyone deals with this. Usually, when life gets busy the first thing to go is time in the word when arguably that should be the last thing to go, but that is human nature. Get back into quiet time with God, listen to worship music and pray. Actually, get on your knees and intercede with the Lord.
Logistically on the business side, scale back. If you are feeling overwhelmed and lost, oftentimes it is related to too much going on, too many priorities that are screaming in your face. Work on steps to simplify your life and business.
There is a lot to be said about operating in our zone of genius. The fact is that can actually bring us a lot of life, energy, and excitement, rather than draining us. We love a lot of things when it comes to running a company but last year we put too much of ourselves in that type of thing and it sucked a lot of life out of us and wasn’t filling our cups. Can we do those things, sure? Are those things in our zone of genius and where we come alive and feel energized, no? For entrepreneurs that are important to recognize. When you are operating in your zone of genius you can be creating and putting in more “work” but it’s actually filling your cup and making you more energized. This is where teams are really vital and help save your sanity. You don’t have to do everything in your business at all times!
There are seasons of push and hustle, those seasons are healthy and normal. It’s like harvesting your seeds. Then in the winter when you’re not farming you rest. There has to be a season of rest to follow.
That comes with any business that has publicity or a platform at all. There will be more critics when you fully stand and own who God made you to be. You don’t water down or shy away from who He created you to be. When you are stepping into your calling there are going to be people who don’t like that and that is okay. If everybody on Earth loves you then you’re probably not owning who you are and walking in that.
You can never get to a place where everyone loves you. It doesn’t matter if you’re trying to please and appease everyone on the planet, it’s not going to work. Embrace who God called you to be because there is so much freedom, clarity, and fire when you are operating in what God has called you to be. So much fruit comes from being connected to the vine and being connected to who God has called you to be and what He has called you to do. Whereas if you’re trying to disconnect yourself from the vine and be this little branch switching between fruit and leaves coming from you. It is exhausting operating from a space of not being who God called you to be. You never are going to make everyone happy, so you might as well make the Lord happy.
It’s fear of what people will think. It’s fear of not being enough or being seen as enough. To that point, when you hold yourself back from showing up with the message that God has given you to share you are innately focusing on yourself. You need to take that lens off yourself and put it on the person out there who needs you to show up imperfect, messy, and raw. Get over yourself and show up giving that person the value and gold that God has put in your heart to give to them.
Where are your eyes? If your eyes are a constant magnifying glass to your own navel your not going to be walking in the direction that God has called you to.
We learned a lot from last year with how much we did. We have learned this year to pull back and nurture who we have and build those relationships. This year we’re focusing not on launching as much and so that would allow us both to take month-long sabbaticals. Building teams, strategies, and workflows allow you to find and take that time to rest.
Rest is very productive. If you have experienced burnout you know how horrible it can be and strip you. Recognizing that hustle without rest will drive you and your business into the ground. There’s nothing wrong with getting excited because you accomplished something, the problem is when that becomes our identity or when that becomes our sole focus and not being aligned with the Lord and His timing.
Rest is sometimes the most productive thing you can do and knowing that looks different for everyone.
