Today we’re chatting about a topic we’ve NEVER touched on this show before. YES. We are over 200 episodes in and we’re finally touching on a topic that you’ve asked us time and time again to talk about. The topic? Pinterest marketing.
Now Pinterest is a marketing tool we think a lot of entrepreneurs under-utilize or chalk up to a simple “Oh I’ll do that someday…” attitude. However, when done right, Pinterest can be an incredible way to get free leads to your business. So today we’re chatting ALL about Pinterest and giving you tangible ways you can uplevel your pinning game!!!
If you’re like, “YASSSS!!!! Pinterest marketing. Awesome. Butttttt where do I even begin?!” This episode is JUST for you. We’re discussing 5 tips to start utilizing Pinterest in your business if you’re just starting out with Pinterest marketing.
Pinterest. If you’re not using it, you’re missing out on an entirely new avenue of incredible marketing.
Pinterest is an EXTREMELY valuable tool to get your brand and business out there. It’s a way to reach new audiences that you wouldn’t normally reach through Instagram or Facebook. This is why we wanted to shed light on this popular platform and share a few reasons WHY you should be utilizing it NOW to exponentially grow your business and expand your audience.
There are more than 444 million active monthly users on the site, which means there’s a HUGE audience to reach. It’s the perfect opportunity to increase your brand awareness and allow you to reach a whole new audience you wouldn’t otherwise reach on Instagram or Facebook.
Ask yourself this: is my ideal client using Pinterest at all? If they are, are you showing up the serving content they are searching for? Here are a bunch of industries that their ideal client is on Pinterest:
The biggest difference between Pinterest and other platforms is that Pinterest really shouldn’t even be considered a social media platform. It’s much more of a search engine similar to Google. People don’t go on Pinterest to connect with people, but more so to search for items and things they’re wanting – as they do on Google. With this in mind, your actual following on Pinterest is less important than the amount of monthly viewership you’re getting. The goal here is to get eyes on your pins, not necessarily getting people to follow you.
When your audience is scrolling past your product, you want them to see it, want it, and buy it all at once. The beauty of Pinterest is the path to purchase is direct for your audience, especially when your website is directly linked to the pin itself.
1. Connect your Pinterest to all your accounts. When your Pinterest is integrated and connected with all your other social media platforms and websites, it makes it so much easier to pin directly from other places. This should include your website, Instagram, Facebook, Etsy, Youtube, or anything else you primarily use in your business. If you haven’t done this yet, it should be the FIRST thing you do when tackling Pinterest marketing. Along with that, in your Pinterest bio: state who you are, what you do, who you serve, and where you’re based if that’s relevant to your business! Think about it as if it’s your IG bio. It’s precious real estate. Make sure you’re using it to its fullest potential.
2. Pin MULTIPLE TIMES for one piece of content. Pinterest is like Google. It’s a search engine like we said before. That’s how people use it. This is why it’s so important to start getting your content out there. We recommend creating at least 10-20 pins per piece of content that you’re producing. A piece of content could mean a blog post, a podcast episode, a PDF freebie, or anything like that that links back to your business. Now, we know this sounds like a lot, and 10-20 pins per blog post do sound overwhelming, but it really isn’t.
Let’s break it down:
Grab some Pinterest Canva templates from creative shops like Creative Market that you can easily plug and play whenever you have a piece of content you want to create a bunch of pins on.
3. Stay consistent by scheduling out your pins. Consistency on any marketing platform is always recommended. And with Pinterest, if you’re not consistently pinning not only other people’s pins but also your own, your monthly viewership won’t grow. Consistency is a no-brainer, but it’s the MOST important thing you can do if you wanna grow your audience & reach on Pinterest. If you aren’t consistent, your pins will NOT get the traction you want. So make sure you’re pinning at LEAST 3-5 fresh pins every single day. It can feel overwhelming at first, so start small at first and work your way up. We recommend batch creating to make it easier on yourself. Block out an afternoon to get this month’s Pinterest up to date. We and our team use a tool called Tailwind. It’s a way to schedule and automate not only your own pins but also other people’s pins. It makes it a million times easier to actually spend one afternoon scheduling your pins for the month so you don’t have to constantly be doing it every single day.
4. Link, link, link. The WHOLE point of Pinterest is to direct potential clients and customers to your website, IG, content, and videos. Whatever it may be and we mean ANY, pins you create yourself should ALWAYS include a direct link to YOUR content: meaning your website, blog, Instagram, or individual product. This is VITAL in order to increase website traffic and turn those browsers into buyers. If there’s no place for your ideal client to go when they come across your pins, you’ve just lost a potential sale. The goal is to bring them into your corner of the internet and turn them from raving fans to paying clients. And Pinterest is the SURE fire way to do just that.
5. Use keywords. You can do this in so many different ways on Pinterest. But the main ways are when creating and uploading your own pins, to pay attention to the titles, descriptions, and your image file names. Strategically focusing on keywords here will be SUCH A GAME CHANGER!!! Pinterest is PERFECT for taking advantage of SEO!!! We said it before, and we’ll say it again, it is a search engine after all. Just make sure it makes sense with where your pins are being linked.
Alright, there you have it, friends. If you haven’t already, now you can start pinning your heart out.
