Welcome to the show where we combine heartfelt girl chats with hardcore business and marketing strategies to help cultivate your life and business. Today’s episode is a super fun one. We did an episode a while back (Episode 197 if you haven’t listened to it yet) where we just came to the mic completely unscripted, vulnerable, and had an honest girl chat between us on the pressures of being online in this day and age, comparison, feeling the pressure to either be overly vulnerable online or overly curated. And the feedback we received from you was that you absolutely LOOVVEDDDDD that unscripted and honest girl chat episode. SOOOOO we decided to do it again on today’s episode.
Over the past year, we have slowly pivoted our business from being full-time wedding photographers to now focusing more on business coaching and running the heart as well as our other companies. And within that pivot, we’ve gone through a lot of uncertainty and a lack of clarity on how to use our personal Instagrams to show up online.
Are our Instagrams now considered influencers and purely personal accounts? Do we treat them purely as business coach accounts? How do we differentiate our own accounts from The Heart University’s account?
Behind the scenes, we’ve been on the struggle bus about ALL these questions, and today we’re just openly and honestly pulling back the curtain to everything we’ve been internally discussing with each other, and you’re getting a sneak peek into the raw vulnerability that comes from pivoting your business.
If you’ve found yourself in a similar season OR you feel a lack of clarity when it comes to your own Instagram account, welcome! You’re in the welcome territory. Cause same.
Where We’ve Been
We’ve been sitting in the last year or two on the middle ground of where we have pivoted too, but we have just sat there because we’re not sure which way to go.
We feel like our cups for education are already getting filled from The Heart, so now we think our personal accounts are more influencers.
Are we big enough to not niche down anymore?
We are confusing a niche with an offering. Motherhood and entrepreneurship are content pillars for Lindsey. On both fronts of photography and business education, we have already established ourselves as an expert so we don’t need to show the nitty-gritty tips on our personal page for people to still look up to us.
Differentiating our personal accounts from the Heart’s account
We are still stuck in the mindset that we think we need to create Instagram tips for people to book us. Now we are just the airport, people come to hang out and then from there they go to the different terminals for business training, swimsuits, etc. It’s a shift of directly funneling into an offering to a community for people to be and we have offerings when people are ready for them, but they don’t necessarily need to be funneled through a step one, two, and three.
Posting on Instagram
The last year 2021 was such a big business year, especially for Evie with launching EvieSwim, getting married, and then launching stuff with the Heart, Evie pulled back from posting every day. At first, she was feeling so guilty, but if you are working on the big picture back-end don’t feel guilty. You don’t have to force something to make it work if your hands are already full, you don’t have to post every day on Instagram. Sometimes growing on Instagram is not the priority for that season. Other things in your business need more focus and attention. We are human and cannot do it all.
