Back in April during the Heart Conference, we did something a little extra fun to give our attendees (aka YOU) a chance to be on this show. We had our podcast audio engineer, Hayden, set up a little mini podcast studio for our attendees to join a few podcast episodes with us. So we had them ask us some questions that we’d answer on a future show …AKA THIS EPISODE!
You asked us questions ranging from, “what would we tell a multi-passionate entrepreneur who is dealing with burnout?”, “our #1 piece of advice for someone just starting their business”, and to some personal questions on our most difficult seasons and what we learned from them to some fun ones like what we’d be doing if we weren’t in our current line of work.
This is SUCH a fun episode and such a fun way to have YOU, our podcast listeners, actually ON the show with us!!!
So buckle up and get ready for a fun variety of questions and answers! Also, stay tuned to the end because there’s a surprise question that you need to hear.
Ashley: What is the advice you would give to someone who is starting their business from scratch? What is the one thing you would tell somebody to start with if they were to redo their business all over again?
- God as your co-CEO will revolutionize your business and life. Everything will be so full of joy, and peace and aligned with his purpose. The blessings that come from inviting God into your business are unmatched.
- Give yourself a lot of grace and time. It’s not going to happen overnight. That is not the norm for things to happen “overnight”. Be willing to stick it out and put in the hard work and give it some time.
- You have to shut off comparison. Comparison does not get a say in your life story, does not get a say in how you view yourself.
Ally: If you weren’t in this line of work what career would you want to pursue?
Lindsey: Comedian or actress. I could also see interior designer, I am actually trash at it, so it’s wishful thinking. Let’s go with a comedian.
Evie: Interior designer, I just love it and am a very visual person. The other thing is a musician.
Susanna: What is the best piece of advice you could give to a multi-passionate entrepreneur coming out of a season of burnout, healthy complications, and grief? How to gain clarity in business again?
Give yourself grace to not jump back in immediately. Life sucks sometimes, for everybody, there will always be times in our life when life will hit the fan. So setting up systems and processes before it does, is very helpful. When you’re trying to step back into daily life or business, pick one thing per day. Even if it’s as simple as going for a walk around the block or making yourself lunch. Slowly as you get back into it and that task gets easier, then add another task.
Maria: What did you expect to get out of the conference? And then what did you not expect, but you still got?
We expected it to be a fun time, we didn’t have a ton of expectations since it was our first conference. We had a hope that it would be life-changing but didn’t expect it.
We didn’t expect to walk away from that, so rocked by the students, attendees, the friendships that were made, and the impact we had with that conference, unknowingly. The conference was one of the final things that pulled Evie out of burnout. Post-conference our tank was full, fully confirming we are extroverts and fueled by people.
Theresa: What is the most difficult season you have gone through, in life or business, and what have you learned from it?
Evie: The season after I came back from ministry school in California, I moved home with my parents, and broke up with my very serious boyfriend at the time, who is now my husband. I had planned to go into politics, and then God closed the door on that. It was my biggest desert season, everything was striped from me. What I learned from that season, pushed me to the Lord in a way that set me up for the growth, success, and challenges in the following seasons. My roots with God went deeper than I ever thought possible. That dependency on the Lord was huge for me.
Lindsey: The obvious answer would be the season I went through my miscarriage, but I wouldn’t even call it a season because I was in deep grief for a month and a half. There was a softening of that season, that it doesn’t hurt the way it used to.
Another season was last summer, we were in transition from moving from Hawaii to Kansas. We moved while our house in Kansas was being renovated, but it took longer than we anticipated. Then Andrew’s brother who was our contractor broke his leg. Not only was difficult for him, but Andrew also took over his job and I was pregnant with Annalise at the time. We didn’t have a home, we were living in our church’s house that they rent out, Andrews’s mom, etc. We were also launching things in The Heart, losing team members, and hiring new team members. I had to lean on the Lord in such a strong visceral way.
Ally: You’ve been given an elephant you can’t give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant?
Evie: Turn it into a business. How can I monetize that? My thought was to monetize it and turn it into some sort of business.
Lindsey: I’ll start a zoo and the logo will be the elephant and the elephant’s name.
