Today we have the privilege and honor of being able to share a podcast episode that we recorded with our friend Jordan Dooley on her SHE podcast.
Today we talked about owning your faith as a business owner and how to incorporate God into your business whether or not you necessarily become a “Christian brand.” We then dive into the topic of money mindset as a Christian and our thoughts on what the Bible says about finances and faith as believers and especially as Christian business owners seeking to make a profit. It’s POWERFUL.
We wrap up the episode by touching on a few thoughts around scarcity mindset and handling competition as an entrepreneur, as well as how to handle working for a brand or company that doesn’t necessarily align with your personal values.
Owning your Faith
God isn’t a brand pillar.
A personal brand is where we are coming from and Jesus is at the center of everything for us. Approach sharing the Lord from a personal aspect. We share it as “God has taught me this…”. It’s not trying to preach but this has changed your life and if you want to hear it, if not that is okay.
Is there a Christian way to run your business & does it have to fit the Christian genre
You don’t have to be in the Christian niche to run your business as a Christian. All three of us are examples of that. Running your business as a Christian- say you’re a brick-and-mortar store so you could put a Bible verse on the wall. You could have an outwardly facing branding to incorporate it but more than that it’s incorporating that into who you are and letting that flow through everything. In the ethics of how you run your business and the honor, you treat your employees and your customers. It’s taking Proverbs and applying them.
Money mindset and making money as a Christian
Read Proverbs 31 and fear or insecurity of money will be squashed. We take the idea of being humble and take it too far when it comes to making money. Money is not bad it is just a tool and can be used for bad or good. Christians should be the ones going out to the world and making the most so we can go out into the world and advance God’s kingdom. If you’re giving a luxury service you should charge luxury prices, because it is an exchange of goods and services and that is fair.
The money is not ours, all of it is God’s. We are the vessels that are distributing it. It’s not that money is evil, it’s the love of money that is the problem.
Competition and Scarcity Mindset
You have to go back to your identity and who God’s made you be and own that. No matter what anyone else is doing. Put up your blinders and do what you are doing in your business. You have to route for everyone’s own journeys.
You have to have a goal and a mission beyond yourself. You have to keep your eyes on the ultimate mission.
Advice for someone working in a business that doesn’t align with their values
Seek the Lord and pray into that. He will tell you if you are supposed to stay and be the light or if you are supposed to take a step back. If it’s your own business, same thing.
