We had the incredible privilege of sitting down with a true powerhouse, Holly Wehde. What she shares is literally life-changing for any parent.
During our conversation with Holly, she discusses the core principles that have shaped her remarkable family culture. Holly shared her insights on homeschooling and how to raise children who grow into powerful, competent, and capable individuals, unafraid to take healthy risks and thrive as adults. Holly shares such goodness about how her mission with raising her kids has always been to value open discussion, healthy relationships, intentionality in everything they do, and how to cultivate a genuine personal relationship with Jesus.
We also cover how Holly and her husband, Mike, have beautifully integrated their love for entrepreneurship and owning businesses into their family culture. They have created an environment that nurtures the entrepreneurial spirit, fostering a sense of purpose, creativity, and self-belief in their children.
Holly’s Story
Holly is an entrepreneur, visionary, & legacy builder. Her calling is to empower people to be all they were created to be. This began with raising and homeschooling her five children, pastoring a church with her husband, and founding and running multiple million-dollar companies.
She is the founder of the business-for-good company Trades of Hope, and has traveled worldwide, helping rescue women out of the slums & brothels so they can start businesses for their families.
She owns many passive businesses & proudly operates joy-filled businesses in her beach town to reach her community while traveling and speaking to women about being all they’re created to be!
Raising your kids in a culture that doesn’t know Jesus
There is a verse in the Bible in Deuteronomy about teaching the relationship with Jesus. That is the forefront of our life. We chase after Jesus in our imperfections. Let your kids see your relationship with Jesus. Your kids are always listening and watching. Make sure Jesus is real in your home and real to you, if He is not He won’t be for your kids. Model Biblical truths, the good and bad ones. You’re going to make mistakes and that is okay. If you run to Jesus and your kids see that, they will too.
Getting started in entrepreneurship
Holly’s parents were entrepreneurs. She saw the incredible freedom that they had and thought everyone had that. Holly always knew she wanted to be an entrepreneur and at 19 she would go to the library and look up every book about business.
It was always there, but Holly and her husband took over her family business when she was twenty-two, and then when she was forty God gave her a vision of Trades of Hope. At 16 her daughter partnered with her and they started that business. Never too young, never too old.
family legacy and business
Early on they taught their kids that America was built on this entrepreneurial spirit. Someone in business started everything you see. This innovation came from individuals to start with. We don’t have to do what everyone else is doing.
If you were going to die in five years what would you want to teach them? Don’t get so caught up in the little details.
Each child when they were in high school they had to start a business. They got to try all different kinds of roles. She encouraged her kids but made them do the scary things. They will be better off in the long run. They were challenged to take on roles and jobs that would stretch them and grow them.
Advice on building a family culture
Be the biggest influence in your kid’s life. You and your husband. Not your peers or teachers, YOU. Family culture takes time.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned in business?
It is not about the Wehde family legacy, it is about Jesus’ legacy. The Wedhe family legacy is you represent Jesus. Our goal is to make people feel loved, valued, and known. There is no family legacy there is Jesus’ legacy.
