Today we have a repeat guest of one of our favorite people and yours. Nate Chanski is coming on to today’s show to talk about Reels, education, being a photographer and so much more. We dive in super deep today into the niche topic of Reels. Everything you could want to know we discuss today!
Nate’s Story
Nathan Chanski is a Wedding Photographer, Business Coach, and Course Creator based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He runs a full-time wedding photography business, an education and coaching platform for photographers, and is also the host of the Passion With Purpose Podcast – a podcast for photographers and creatives. While he lives and breathes for the entrepreneurial journey, His primary passion is always centered around glorifying God through everything he does, building a life with his wife Kayla, and inspiring individuals to create the life and career of their full potential.
Do you batch your reels?
He does not create when inspiration strikes. It would be very exhausting. Nate is somebody who when he gets inspiration writes it down. He has two different notes on his phone, one for funnier reels and one for more educational. He will put any sort of tiny wording or link. Then by the time he gets the the end of the week, he will batch-create what he has in his notes from that week and then put it out the next week.
He typically batches a week out, not much more than that. He wants to be prepared and well throughout out but also wants to fly by the seat of his pants a little bit and be in the moment.
When does inspiration strike?
One place where Nate gets the majority of his ideas is just doing the job. He gets some of his best content when he is shooting a wedding, responding to a client, or editing photos. He gets his best education ideas while coaching. His coachees are the ones telling him what they need.
There are certain creators that he notices on social media that he is so inspired by.
Filming and editing
It’s messy and different every time. The least used app is Instagram. He records using his front-facing camera, he will also use the TikTok app. The app he edits the most is Capcut, it has so many features in it. The last part of it, he will always caption in the app that he is posting in.
How do you balance creating a consistent schedule with being a podcaster, educator, photographer, etc.?
He is taking a lot fewer photographer clients, probably only 5 wedding clients. He would love for his photography brand itself to run on its own where all he has to do is shoot.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
Think about your business in terms of a long-term approach. A quality approach instead of quantity. What do you want to build for the next decade? Know that it’s going to take a minute to build and that’s okay. You’re not going to get everything right on the first try. Delayed gratification to have the long-term vision.
