If you struggle with blogging and knowing how to get your blogs seen, read, or even know what to blog about. We’re about to give some great tips for you!
There are some major blogging mistakes we see almost daily with entrepreneurs, and we’re about to call them out and then supply you with strategies and tools to master blogging once and for all.
Here’s the deal with blogging: it’s one of the most powerful ways for people to learn from you, connect with you, and find you from a simple google search, Pinterest search, and the best part?? IT’S FREE! Nearly all you need is a website with a blog, but it’s also one of the most underrated tools in marketing. A lot of people say “Wait do I really even need a blog?” “Is it even worth it?”
Our answers to that are a resounding YES. However, it’s a completely different ball game than social media marketing. With social media, you’re often in the short game, creating content to be consumed immediately with not much shelf life. With blogging, you’re playing the long game. The better you make your blogs NOW, the better they’ll do for you in the future.
Have we convinced you of how rad blogging is yet? If not, keep reading. Blogging is a GREAT way to market in your business and we’re about to help you correct the BIGGEST mistakes you might be making in your blog. OR if you haven’t started your blog yet, EVEN BETTER.
We are wordy people, we like talking, we like writing. You know we like talking, however people’s attention spans these days are SHORT SHORT SHORT. Shorter than short, they are about 8 seconds long. If people can’t read something usually within the time they’d be waiting in line at Starbucks, they’ll probably skip it altogether. For most blog posts you want it to be valuable, but not excessively wordy. Trim it down as much as possible so you get to the point and serve them with valuable information without overwhelming them with a wall of text.
If you do have a decent amount of words, you can break it up with images and photos to make it more digestible. You could use bullet points, sections, and photos so those words are still separated and don’t feel like a wall of text.
When you see a massive group of text, you usually don’t want to read it. If you do have a large section of the text, break it up into smaller paragraphs.
If you use too many it slows down your load time, exponentially. If you’re a business that is blogging lots of photos (typically photographer or even a company in the wedding industry) that is showing lots of photos from a wedding day or event. You usually want to cut it shorter than bigger. For a wedding blog, you don’t want to have more than sixty photos. Shocking right? It’s true, even the person with the fastest internet would still take forever to load. There is one thing that is worse than people’s attention span, that is waiting for a photo to load. They are not going to stick around, you will lose them.
People love visuals especially in this day in age and not just text. It helps paint a picture and create a connection with what you are talking about. Whether it is a story about you, or your clients, or a behind-the-scenes or a tip for a client, still include a photo to draw on that connection point.
A couple of tips for using photos in blogs:
SEO is 75% of the reason why you blog, it’s to get your website noticed on Google and have it easily searchable. You want to create blogs that are being searched so that people can find you. Just like social media marketing is an avenue of marketing, SEO and blogging are another that if you are utilizing both of those you are unstoppable.
If you are not utilizing your SEO here are some helpful tools for you:
You want to create an opportunity for potential clients or customers to connect with you and build a know, like, trust factor before they ever even decide to book or buy from you. The biggest mistake we see people making, especially people in the photography industry, is only blogging their photo work. Or a product shop, only blogging their products. That is one aspect of why people would want to book with you or buy your product, but what other reason are you giving them to buy your product or service than Sally down the street? What makes you different? A blog is a great way to utilize free marketing for things other than just showcasing your work or what you sell.
Share things like:
And OBVIOUSLY, showcase your work too, but your blog should be so much more than that.
Only posting them once on social media and expecting everyone to read it that one time. Everyone is not reading it in that one time that you posted it. We forget that not everyone reads something when we share it one time or that it is a good time when we share it for everyone to read it at that time. Sharing it repeatedly isn’t annoying. It’s most likely reminding someone who saw it previously to read it now. Or getting it in front of people who didn’t see it before.
Ways to encourage people to read it, you don’t have to share it to the same place, in the same way, and at the same time:
Be sure to utilize and repurpose that content, you don’t want to put all that time and effort into creating valuable content and not utilize it regularly and making the most of that expertise and value that you are offering.
Create multiple frames or posts to share it on. On Pinterest, whether you are creating your templates on Photoshop, Canva, or a template of some kind. Create multiple versions of the same blog post cover. Create multiple versions that can be linked to the same blog post but might reach someone differently. You can diversify one blog post and create different ways that people might resonate with that title and which would lead them to click on it.
